Science and Technology Serving the Industry

The collaboration between VR Engineering and the Center for Advanced Engineering, Research, and Development – CIAID was established in Colombia since May 2022 for research and development (R&D) in the thermal equipment manufacturing industry. It was conceived by VR Engineering’s senior management to include expert researchers in computational engineering within the thermal machinery design and development team. The goal was to replicate the successful collaboration between industry players and academia in international R&D centers, which traditionally have generated significant technological and scientific advancements in countries with high economic development. Specifically, to address technological and scientific challenges of VR Engineering in Colombia and the region that have demonstrated the need for such collaboration.

Among the current and future perspectives addressed by the VR Engineering – CIAID collaboration are various topics, such as the incorporation of doctoral researchers in practical problems, the timing, costs, and opportunities for research in the productive sector, the experience in proposing technological development projects in the Colombian industry, as well as the logical framework and guidelines from the senior management of companies in the industry to generate these initiatives in advanced engineering and applied science topics.

The experience of collaboration within the national science and technology program is concluded, as well as a future reference for applied research and knowledge transfer to productive sectors in the region.
